THE BAND

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF DEMAGOGUE

So you wanna know more about the band, huh? Well this is the right place to be looking..

BORIS LADWIG - lead vocals / rhythm guitar

Name: Boris Ladwig
Born: Aug. 19, 1969 in Aurich, Germany.
Family: Married Natalie C. Rodgers on Oct. 3, 1997.

Boris lived in Germany for 17 years before tasting the American Way of Life as an exchange student in Rushville, IN.

He returned to Germany and graduated from high school in Albstadt-Ebingen, Germany in 1990 after 14! laborious years (13 in Germany, one in the U.S.).

He served two years in the Luftwaffe (German Air Force), mostly as part of the NATO Combined Military Police force and was stationed in Washington, D.C. for six months.

He met his wife, Natalie, while studying at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, graduating in 1996 with bachelor of arts degrees in radio/television/film and journalism. He has been working at The Republic, the daily newspaper in Columbus, since 1999, most recently as city editor and business reporter.

Boris dabbled in various instruments throughout childhood, but hadn't played seriously for more than a decade when Marc and Mike mentioned they had previously played in a band. Before joining Demagogue, Boris' singing experience was limited to the shower and his car.

He enjoys playing and watching soccer, listening to all kinds of music, going to movies (as The Republic's movie critic), traveling (he's visited more than 30 U.S. states and about a dozen countries), playing computer games, reading and snowboarding.
MARC GOTOH - lead guitar / vocals

Undeniably, Marc Gotoh (a.k.a. Racer X) is the least understood member of Demagogue. Both feared and revered, he inspires rumors that whenever he plays, loud noises are sure to occur. A facemask used to conceal his identity further shrouds him in mystery, only adding to his reputation as a ne'er-do-well.

Unbeknownst to Mike Spock (and his family), Racer X is really his older brother. Long ago, while competing in a Sara Lee bake-off, Marc dropped and dented a bundt cake pan that Pops had built. Subsequently, he ran away from home when Pops told him he lacked the necessary experience to bake professionally. Aided by his mentor, Kabala, Racer X honed his baking skills by learning how to cook "real good." After this internship, he became a professional ne'er-do-well.

Along the way, Racer X added "guitarist" to his resume. Figuring that it was easiest way to meet young ladies of dubious moral fiber, Racer X studied music at Indiana University. Teachers included Sulaiman Zai (classical guitar), Mariano Morales (latin ensemble), David Baker (jazz history), and Dominic Spera (jazz composition). Racer X is quick to point out that none of his instructors should be held in any way responsible for the music he now plays, however Racer X is proud to have once been told by Janos Starker after a guitar recital that it was the "loudest Villa-Lobos he had ever heard."

Racer X uses his experience as an international business manager at Cummins as cover for his primary occupation as a wolf nipple-chip vendor in the Roman Colosseum.

MIKE SPOCK - bass Guitar / vocals

Spock was born in the small town of Springfield in the 70's. His formative music years came in the 80's as a drummer for the bands Demon(5th grade), Magic(6th grade), Infinity(8th grade), Plain People(9th grade) and Twice Shy(10th grade). Inability to settle on a band name and lack of a million dollar publicity campaign were probably the only things that kept these bands from reaching the big time just like Duran Duran.

Soon after big brother left for college in '86, Spock went into a musical dormancy period which lasted much of 10 years. During these years Spock dabbled in bad rap and synth rock collaborating with the musical unkowns D.J. Justice and 'Yes We Are'. Although songs such as 'Teenage Vampire Woman', 'We Got it Covered' and 'Christmas in Columbus' became local favorites, once Spock turned off his tape player, he never heard them on the radio.

Then came the first big break that got Spock back into performing with a band. A move into the big, yellow, house in Columbus put Spock on the map. (The architectural tour map.) With a brand new bass gutiar and some friends, the garage band temporarily known as Venus Envy came into being! After rocking out the local Mill Race Live concert, their glory was short lived. Spock moved to Florida to begin work in a disfunctional version of the 'Truman Show', thus breaking up the band.

Spock soon returned to Columbus, but the magic bass sat collecting dust as soccer coaching, marathon running and grading papers took up much of his time. Three years later, at a New Year's Eve party, along with Marc and Boris, the idea that became Demagogue was formed. After joining up with Chris a few months later, the band was complete and ready to rock the world! Soon, Spock and his Demagogue band mates, plan to record their first original songs with hopes of becoming one-hit wonders on the level of Soft Cell or Dexy's Midnight Runners!

Be Excellent.
CHRIS BAXTER - percussion / vocals

Chris Baxter, a 26 year old Seymour native, picked up his first pair of drumsticks at the age of 3 and has been playing ever since. His forte is rudimental drumming where he spent over 6 yrs studying the art during high school in Seymour and college at Purdue University.

Chris has had the opportunity to perform with well known vocalists Jim Nabors and Florence Henderson, and has opened and performed with jazz trumpet great Maynard Ferguson. With a wide variety of playing styles under his belt, Chris is well prepared for any turn the band might take musically.

Outside of playing music, Chris also teaches dance at a local performing arts center in Seymour where the band practices. When Chris isn't working, teaching, or playing, he usually is sleeping, as there isn't much time left once he finishes those three! Just kidding, Chris enjoys spending time with family and friends at various activites in his free time.
